While Christians commonly praise adoption, most American churches do not have a single family that adopted a child during the past year. Churches can and should play a crucial role in encouraging members to “look after orphans in their distress” (James 1:27).

World Magazine article, Look After Orphans (Paul Golden, January 30, 2010), presents 20 proactive ways in which our church can answer the call to ‘look after orphans in their distress’ (James 1:27). We will look at each of these over the next several weeks.

Here are some highlights:

#1–‘Pray that you and your church would become adoption-friendly’

#4–‘Make adoption resources available to the church’

[The Just O.N.E. Ministry at LBC will continue to hold education meetings to educate the church regarding the crisis of need and God’s mandate to help meet it]

#10–‘Create a standing church fund for adoption costs’

[LaGrange Baptist will be holding a Special Offering later in March to establish just such a fund!]

#16–‘Sponsor a child’
